About The Breed

The Cane Corso is a large, muscular, and athletic Italian mastiff breed. The name translates from Latin to "bodyguard dog" or "guardian dog". Cane Corsos are known for being loyal, protective, and intelligent, but can be difficult to handle due to their dominant nature. They are best suited for experienced owners with large fenced yards. Here's a closer look at the Cane Corso: Origin** An ancient Roman working breed, recognized by the AKC in 2010.

Smart, trainable, and of noble bearing, the assertive and confident Cane Corso is a fearless protector.

Corsos are at very unique intimidating creatures. Their imposing appearance is their first line of defense against intruders. As one writer put it, 'An understated air of cool competence, the kind of demeanor you'd expect from a professional bodyguard, is the breed's trademark.'     Corsos are intelligent, loyal, eager to please, versatile, and intensely loyal to their humans, but are also assertive and willful, and can end up owning an unwitting owner. As with any other big guardian dog, responsible breeding and early socialization with people and other dogs is a MUST.
